A Bad Run & Chickens

Hey guys!

I’ve been really enjoying my summer so far. Between my new gym, family, and naps, I’d say it’s been a pretty good start to my vacation!

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

Yesterday, I had plans to meet up with my friend Erin to take a group cardio class. She woke up a little late, though, so we decided to just meet up at the gym to use the machines and after talk over some Starbucks. Since I was out the door when she texted me apologizing for oversleeping, I decided to go on a trail run till she was ready to meet up. In terms of runs, this one was probably the shittiest one of the year.

My times weren’t awful, but my body was hating it. I was running on a semi-sandy trail and there were so many baby hills that by the time I had taken 10 steps I knew it was going to be a tough one. I honestly felt like quitting a quarter of a mile in, but I’m glad I stuck through it. I’ve come to realize that if running were easy, everyone would do it and you’re bound to have a bad run every once in a while. It was a bit discouraging though, I have to admit. However, the view didn’t disappoint!

Since I was sore from the gym the day before, I decided to focus on cardio and not lift. I elliptical-ed for 15 minutes before incline walking for 15 and then using the stair master for 10. Stair master=death.

After the gym, I went to get some coffee with Erin and walked around the Farmer’s Market.

I spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool and loving life ;).

Today was another good gym day! I have some guest passes to use up, so I took Kyle on a gym date.

My legs are still pretty fatigued from my last couple of workouts, so I just shook them out with 20 minutes on a modified elliptical that replicates a cross country skiiing motion and then hit up the stairmaster for 10 minutes. I hate it, but it’s strangely addicting at the same time. After my cardio, I did some quick arm exercises from an app I have on my phone and called it a day. I’ve decided to start breaking my workouts into days for legs and for arms since I’ve started going everyday. I usually do full body strength exercises, but I have more time and don’t want to overtrain my mooooscles. Anyone have any tips on breaking up workout days or have any good resources for new exercises?

After the gym, we drove over to Kyle’s house to play with his chickens. He has a barn in his backyard where they keep some animals, and most of them are incredibly docile. The chickens actually will peck you and follow you until you pick them up. Love it!

CHICKEN BAKKK

My minion.

As we were leaving, we heard something running behind us, and noticed that a chicken had followed us out. We have no idea how it got out of the numerous gates, but that chicky-poo was bent on following us like a deep fryer was after it. Kyle scooped the little rascal up and walked him back down to the barn. Sorry!

We went to a Vietnamese restaurant (obviously) to grab some lunch. I got the chicken rice plate and an iced coffee to split. It’s been a chicken-filled day.

My plans for the rest of the evening include baking some cookies for the love bug and going over to his place to cuddle and watch some movies.

Things I’m Loving

Today has been great. I drove back home from college with my sister, Kyle, and a friend and got back in only 2 hours! I love not having to waste away my life in traffic :). We left at 9 in the morning and stopped by Starbucks for breakfast. I had a Tall black coffee and their blueberry oatmeal. The oatmeal was a bit small, so I was starving when I got home!

Such a pretty drive back!

I feasted on sushi and trail mix when I got back. It was glorious! Then I took a 2 hour nap. There really is nothing like sleeping in your old bed :). I’m also pretty sore from yesterday’s killer workout, so I slept like a baby.

As of now, I’m lying outside by my pool working on some online chemistry homework. Not sure if the horribleness of homework cancels out with tanning by the pool, but it sure is better than being kept inside on a beautiful and sunny day!

Bench Presses & Italian Pottery

Today started off bright and early with an 8 o’clock trip to the gym! The weather has finally been getting nice! I’m such the spoiled SoCal girl. Anything below 60 gets me shivering and complaining ;).

I did 20 quick but intense minutes on the elliptical for a warmup, then met up with my friend Hot Ryan for a great lifting session! The name “Hot” Ryan teasingly originated at the beginning of the school year and has stuck ever since! It’s to the point where I can’t think of him by any other name haha.

quick and efficient!

Ryan came from an early morning Crew practice, but was still game to show me some new additions that I can add to my weight routine! I tried bench pressing for the first time and had a blast with it! It was great hour long workout and I’m excited to be extra sore tomorrow.

After the gym I rushed to Starbucks to pick up an iced coffee with a few pumps of sugar free toffee nut syrup. It was refreshing but not overly sweet. Totally hit the spot!

Sweeet Nectar of College Life!

Lunch involved some fresh fish tacos with shredded lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and sour cream. A salad on the side along with a bowl of grilled vegetable cous cous.

At 3 it was time for some much needed shopping with my girls! I ended up getting a cutout dress, some shirts, and a really adorable pair of belted red shorts. The two shirts were from a thrift shop (Macklemore anyone ;)?) and were only $12 together!

The best buys of the day were a dusty pink Lululemon headband (I came thiiiiiiiiis close to buying a pair of back capris) and the perfect Mother’s Day present for the Mama! She LOVES Italian hand painted dishes/pottery, so I got her a petite olive oil container that would look perfect on our rustic wooden dinner table. I hope she likes it!

The rest of my night will be consumed with homework and the usual See’s Candy/Latte date with my main man!

Hope you had a great day :)

Sunny Skies

Happy Friday!

After such a long day yesterday, I slept like a rock and got up at 7:30 to shower and get ready for my 9 a.m Calculus class. The weather was absolutely beautiful and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky! I decided to walk to campus today (a 25 minute walk) since a dress was calling my name. Biking in a dress is impossible, so I don’t get to wear them much.

IMG_1692 IMG_1691

Breakfast was a whole wheat bagel with whipped chive cream cheese in class since I wasn’t too hungry.

Quick and Easy

Quick and Easy

After math I speed-walked across campus to my history lecture, then speed-walked back across campus to chemistry. It’s been a speedy day ;). I ended up walking for over an hour and a half total. I only had sandals on, so my feet are a bit sore. Lesson learned!

I finish at 12 o’clock on Fridays (awesome, right?!), so I met up with Kyle at Starbucks to get in on their new blended drinks. We split a ginormous frap. So good!

IMG_1701

Loving the weather!

We walked back to our dorms and then went to grab some lunch. I had my usual salad with some fruit and a beef dip sandwich. I ended up only eating half of the sandwich though- the Starbucks drink definitely curbed my hunger!

IMG_1706 IMG_1705

I went to get my mail and was excited to see a cute present from my parents! Kyle and I have a habit of having a piece of See’s chocolate with a latte (plain latte for me and a caramel for him) for a daily treat when we’re up late doing homework. However, we deplete our store pretty quickly. I was joking (kinda ;)) when I texted my parents, but, hey! I’ll take it!

IMG_1727 IMG_1708

I took a refreshing nap, then went to hangout with some friends before dinner. Dinner consisted of cous cous with grilled veggies, panko crusted swai fish, and some more veg to top it off. IMG_1723

I have a jam-packed day tomorrow so I decided to try to get as much work as possible done today. The rest of my Friday involved my favorite thing to do. Ever. HOMEWORK!

IMG_1728I’m looking forward to tomorrow, though!

TGIF!
