Today’s post it all about unwinding.
If you read my big life-changing announcement yesterday, you know that I am constantly on the go and working. My housemate, Taylor, tells me that I’m the most productive person she knows, and while this lends me to be able to do allllllll the things and manage being a full time student, working an internship, and running my blog and small business, it does make it difficult to fully relax.
To counter this, I have several personal rituals/techniques that help me blow off stress and keep my sanity!
Extra Hot Green Tea + a Sweet Treat
Let’s talk about one of my favorite morning rituals! I’m definitely a early bird (as well as a night owl, so I guess you could just classify me as a never fully rested zombie) and every single day I fall walk down the stairs in a sleepy stupor around 6-7 a.m and make myself an extra hot drink and fix myself a small sweet treat to have alongside it. This is one of my all-time biggest comforts and just thinking about it gives me happy vibes. There is just something about the serene quietness of those early hours + warm drink + yummy noms that make it my favorite part of the day.
Lately, I’ve been obsessing over a new-to-me food that’s perfectly sweet, lightened up (which means I usually use it as an excuse to have multiple ones #noshame), and oh-so portable! If you’ve never tried it before, this tapioca pudding is only 90 calories, has no added sugar, and it gluten-free. BOOM.
Seriously, guys! Head on over and check out more of the delicious things Kozy Shack® Simply Well has to offer! I have my eye on some of their lightened-up chocolate treats as well <3.
Blog Reading
Blog reading is another way that I unwind. Over the few years that I’ve been blogging, I’ve discovered some amazing people and made some fantastic friends by connecting with other bloggers. While I mainly read blogs by other foodies/healthy living bloggers, lately I’ve been browsing more fashion and home-oriented sites. I really love Pink Peonies and The Ivory Lane (they’re two sisters, how fun is that?!) for fashion inspiration and to drool over all their gorgeous (albeit expensive) outfits. I use Bloglovin’ to keep up-to-date with all the latest posts from them and am always happy when I see lots of new links up!
Baking
Because nothing is more soothing than adding sugar and butter together and baking up a storm. While I know some people aren’t fans of baking (my mom is a great cook, but can’t stand baking since she doesn’t like to measure ingredients), I find it calming. Not to mention you get to eat the fruits of your labor and automatically become everyone’s best friend 😉 .
Bubble Baths
Bubble baths! You really can’t go wrong. For me, I actually go pretty conservatively with the bubbles since I get overwhelmed if I’m sitting in a cloud of white. I also can’t really stand being too warm for too long (just one of the reasons I’m not a tanner and my skin thanks me for it), so I’m only usually in the tub for around 10-15 minutes before neeeeeding to get out and cool down. Anywhoo, even sitting and making a conscious effort to relax for that short amount of time can set the tone for the rest of my day.
Short Walks
Last year (my personal hell year with organic chemistry, physics, two bio classes, labs, etc) was beyond stressful for me and I just wasn’t in a very good mental place. One of the most effective ways for me to relax and get out of my own head was to take a short 20-30 minute walk with Kyle. Not only did it help clear my mind, but getting some easy exercise to move my body was just what I needed after sitting for hours on end in front of heavy textbooks and countless notes.
Question of the Day: What are some ways you unwind?

Awww AUTUMN. I can’t even begin to tell you how much your comments mean to me. Honestly! I don’t get much communication from my non-blogging readers and you always make me smile :). Also, new favorite hashtag?!? YES.

Every time I take a bubble bath I get overwhelmed by the bubbles. Plus I think my skin gets irritated from all the various scents. I used to love oatmeal baths as a kid. Whenever I got poison, I would complain about the bath and love it secretly. Hahahah

I’m glad I’m not the only one haha! And please elaborate more on oatmeal baths. I’ve never heard of that and can’t help but imagine a giant bathtub filled with Quaker brown sugar maple oatmeal 😉

I love to go for walks outside to unwind. Unfortunately winter in the east coast gets cold so walking in winter is not as relaxing. I enjoy writing/journaling my thoughts and also doing yoga. Attempting 5 min meditations daily now as well to see if they help.

Gah, hopefully all of that cold weather clears up soon! I don’t even know what I would do if I had to face any sort of weather like that- I’m such a baby ;).
I LOVE the idea of journaling and doing small meditations to help you find your center.

I think that one of your favorite ways to relax should include hanging out with me. 😉 Because that will happen soon! I am determined to make this happen.
Christine Skari says
YES. Hahah girlie we NEEEEED to make this happen. Are you in LA for the summer?

Walking along the bath to Devereux and sitting by the fallen tree relaxes me after a tough day at the hospital. So so so soothing.
Christine Skari says
Gahhhh, that sounds AMAZING!
