Thinking Out Loud…

It’s been a rough week for me, so nothing sounds better than being able to spew out random thoughts and call it a post! Thanks for hosting, Amanda, always love how easy the writing comes!

Thinking-Out-Loud

I’m tired.

Like I mentioned before, this week has been rough for me. This whole year, actually. Right now I’m going through the toughest year of studies for biology majors and I feel like I’m in a constant state of exhaustion and lack of sleep. Most days, I have class in the mornings, and in the evenings, I either have long labs or go to the library till 11:30-12 at night with Kyle to study and get work done. That means I’m running around from 7 a.m till 12 at night most days and am fitting in at least 35 hours a week to my Organic Chemistry class alone. Along with that I have two other bio classes, bio lab, and French. And weekends? What are those? Just extra long study days with no class. It’s ridiculous.

Anyways, that turned in to a small rant. Hopefully your eyes didn’t glaze over too much haha! But in all honestly, I’m incredibly stressed and have been having a few breakdowns and a hard time mentally with all the work I have on my plate, which is something that’s hard for me to admit.

I’m still absolutely in love with the post my best friend Kelty wrote.

If you haven’t read her post “Never Merely Pretty” yet, do it. It’s something all women should read.

Never Merely Pretty. An empowering post that ALL women, young and old, should read.

The promise of Vietnamese food for dinner is the only thing that gets me through Wednesdays.

For both Kyle and I, Wednesdays suck. We both are stuck in morning classes and have labs so our day is pretty packed and we’re on our feet for most of the day. Since I have lab from 7-10 p.m, Kyle and I have a tradition of going to one of our favorite restaurants to get some delicious food to power us through!

My freelance writing gig is going well!

I haven’t talked about it too much on the blog, but a while back I was contacted to work for a fitness website as a freelance writer and recipe developer! So far, I’ve created three recipes for them (along with photography/writing/etc) and am excited to see them go up on the site. Here’s some examples of the goodies I’ve made!

I’m loving my new camera lens.

I’ve had my eye on the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens for a while, and finally broke down and planned on going to the camera store to buy one. Since I was home for weekend, my dad wanted to come with me (hi, dad!), and surprised me by insisting that he pay for it.

Pretty sure he’s Apple of My Eye’s biggest fan! Love you, dad!

So I realize that this post isn’t very coherent or organized, but hey, cut me some slack! I just had a big Organic Chemistry midterm yesterday and wrote a long research paper on worms that kept me up till 2 last night and working all day. My brain juices are a bit depleted ;).

Hope your hump day went well!

UGH I definitely feel you. Sleep-sort of like unicorns. I believe in it-but does it actually exist? Haha clearly I’m brain dead as well and should go to bed ASAP. And I definitely have mid-quarter breakdowns. And end of quarter breakdowns. And beginning of quarter breakdowns…why is college so hard?? But those brussels sprouts look amazing!

I had a roommate who was pre-med, and I remember the tough time she went through when she took organic chemistry! I’m sure you’re doing a great job, but I know it must be very demanding. Hang in there and at least you have a great guy like Kyle to study with :-)

PS – so excited about your freelance work :-)

    • says

Thanks so much, Jamie! And yup, Kyle is the best of study partners! It’s almost good that we both have a lot of work, or else I think I’d feel bitter ;)!

  3. says

Ugh I feel for you with orgo. I literally called my mom crying every night. Now I’m in thermo and STILL call my mom crying before exams, but I’ve gotten used to it. Science major probs. I don’t blame you for being tired, but hang in there. It will all pay off in the end! And you have a pretty great boyfriend to support you through all of it which is awesome :)

    • says

I really don’t judge you AT ALL for crying on the phone to your mom. Honestly, it’s killer and I broke down sobbing more times than I can count from just being overwhelmed with all the information you need ti know.

      Hope you’re having a great weekend! <3

I am so sorry you are feeling like this! I remember during exams waking up at 5am to study and have the day never seem to end. You are incredible for staying so strong and dedicated through it all! Keep on keepin’ on. :)

    ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I thought it was bad. Till I got to Biochem. So. Much. Information. Too. Little. Time. And I thought Biochem 1 was bad…till I started taking Biochem 2. The exam we have on Friday has more information than I’ve ever had to know for ANYTHING in my life. At least it’s mildly interesting and useful information, but it’s still a ton nonetheless…

Awww your dad is so cute!…which sounds a little creepy. But seriously, he’s awesome because those lenses don’t come cheap. I LOVE the 50mm 1.4! (Although I have the Canon version, but ya know…)

    • says

Good! Lots of stuff for me to look forward to, then haha. But, meh.

My dad is the cutest haha! And I KNOW. So much money for one lens- it’s crazy. Pretty sure the Nikon and Canon version are the same. Is that the one you use for most of your pics?

  6. says

Awww your daddy! Too cute :) I can’t imagine having your schedule. Props to you! I’ve been super duper crabby and tired this week because I have a class from 7-9 every night. Normally that’s my down time so I’m not enjoying having to get home and go straight to bed! And those cookies for your freelance job? Um, I want the link to that, lol 😀

    • says

It sucks not having your normal “rest time!”. Hopefully your schedule dies down and you can have more time for yourself :). Haha I’ll let you know when they go up on the site! :)

  7. says

Oh gosh lady, I can’t even imagine that kind of work load. Huge kudos to you for maintaing a semblance of sanity — I would probably have lost my mind ages ago. It definitely helps when you have things to look forward to, though… and amazing study buddies who can sort of feel your pain. Oh, and congratsssssss on the new lens! I have one, but I’m so used to working with my old lens that I usually neglect it. I hear amazing things about the 50 mm, though, so I should probably get on that…

    • says

Haha the sanity semblance runs pretty low at times, I must admit ;).

I think you would LOVE using the 50 mm more. The blur it gives you makes me swoon haha :). What lens do you usually shoot with, if you don’t mind me asking?

  8. says

That is so neat that you’re freelancing and developing recipes for another site! Good luck with that – those bars look so yummy!

  9. says

I’m so happy that your freelance gig is working out. Your lens looks wonderful and the pictures are awesome!

I have to tell you, I went for Thai food the ysterday and I told my boyfriend “We have to try a Thai Iced Tea. Christine from a blog I read shares it with her BF all the time and it looks so good!!” We ordered…we drank…we LOVED!! Thanks lady. :)

  10. says

Your semester now sounds like my semester last year. It’s rough and sooo exhausting! You’ll get through it though :)

I’m happy your freelance gig is going well. Your pictures look amazing and I’m in love with that lens you have! I need one of those babies!

  11. says

Whoa that is a ginormous 50 f/1.4! Do you know what version it is? AWESOME that your dad paid for it! How sweet is that! So glad to hear your freelancing is going well! What a fantastic thing to add to your resume!

  12. says

Darling, I commend you for even getting a post written. Seriously, you are one busy lady! I sure hope you & Kyle go on a nice date this weekend because it surely sounds like the both of you need it :)

  13. says

You are SO effing precious – getting after is so hard! You are working so hard and it’s going to be so worth it! School is such a stressful thing and you’re managing it really well (blogging too? sheesh. i couldn’t!). Have a wonderful weekend (err, two extra long study days without class!).
And OH YAH your dad is awesome! <3

  14. says

Oh girl so sorry to hear about all the tough stuff with school :( The bright side? When you finish, you are going to be able to look back and be like “Ya! I did that!” And that’s pretty awesome :) Hang in there girl! And congrats on your freelance gig!!

  15. says

I cannot and will not ever get over how cute Ryan is. Seriously, you snagged such a good one! ha ha. And hang in there! Your studying, education, etc is going to pay off! I promise! If it makes you feel any better, I just submitted a 20 page assignment for grad school and I am about to blow my brains out. The only thing that kept me going was the thought of a delicious meal as a reward too – HA HA HA!

    • says

Hopefully it literally does end up paying off hahaha! After all this work, it better ;).

That sounds awful and I hope your brains are still intact! 😉

Jeg er glad i deg, lillevennen min. Og veldig stålt av deg. Gleder meg til å se deg snart – på vei fra Chicago nå. Hang in there. Dad

  17. says

Gosh, this makes me so glad I chose law as my major, no more science for me. 😛 You must have superhuman powers to make it through all that. Congrats on your freelancing gig and your dad is really sweet to get you that amazing camera.

Hope you have a great weekend Christine!

  18. says
