DIY No-Slip Workout Headbands!

Whenever I workout, I almost always wear a headband to keep my bangs back and out of my face. That being said, I also need to use a million (just an estimate) bobby pins to make sure it doesn’t slip out of place. Even my fancy and expensive lululemon headband requires pinning down.

So, when I made no-slip workout headbands that require no pins and actually stays in place by themselves, I was one happy and excited girl!

No-Slip Headband 1What’s even better is that they’re sparkly and they spruce up my workout attire when I’m at the gym or running. My face may look like it’s melting from all the sweat on it, but my hair looks damn good! Practical and cute, that’s a win in my book.

*I’ve gotten several requests for information on where to buy these. If you’re interested, email me at christineskari@gmail.com! Thanks!

DSC_1224The secret to the bands staying in place is lining the bottom with velveteen ribbon, which took me forever to find! I probably wasted enough gas going to various craft stores to buy a whole arsenal of sweatybands or bicbands, but where’s the fun in that ;)? There’s something so comforting about a sewing machine and trying to avoid sticking a needle in my fingers. Le sigh.

Anyways, I was thinking that is might be fun to give a few of these babies away in the future and spread the love! I’ve worn them for 3 days straight and can’t get over how well they stay in place. Poor Kyle, every 5 minutes when we were playing tennis yesterday I would exclaim something along the lines of, “KYLE!! IT’S STILL ON MY HEAD” or “KYLE!! HOW GOOD DO I LOOK?!”. That boy puts up with a lot.

Going along the lines of sewing, I feel so domesticated right now. Cooking, baking, and now sewing? I’m a regular Martha Stewart.

DSC_1193In other news, I got lunch from the hot bar at my local Whole Foods yesterday, and oh my yum, it was SO good! Their mac and cheese is ridiculously delicious and I had a chilled grilled peach that was amazing. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Mhmm. I also picked up a sweet potato, kabocha pumpkin, and some broccoli and beef for a new recipe I’m trying out. More on how that goes later!

DSC_1169Other than that, the rest of today will be spent working on some freelance work, getting sweaty at the gym, and cooking! Sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Let me know if you guys would be interested in a small giveaway!

Omg hun I love those headbands!! They look professional! I would never have believed they were homemade, they’re that good! I wish I had your skills with a sewing machine! Definitely lacking that gene haha

Um DUH to the giveaway! 😉 I would love to try out one of those head bands, and I’m pretty sure my husband would love to hear me ask him “How good do I look?” haha. You always crack me up!

Those headbands look great, and anything which doesn’t require a million grips to hold in is definitely a winner! :)

I’d definitely be interested in a giveaway–they look SO much like BIC Bands! That’s awesome that you were able to make them yourself. I’m not sure if I could ever be that domesticated; I’ve never quite had the hand-eye coordination necessary to learn how to sew, unfortunately. :)

Woohoo! I love being able to make copy-cat DIY projects or recipes and have them turn out as good as the real deal :D. Don’t worry, I’ve almost stabbed myself like 5 times with a needle so far. We’re in the same boat, sista

I’ll HAVE to make a giveaway then! They’re so fun to make, I should just send every reader one haha ;). I was going to write that in my post but totally forgot haha! I’ve always thought my head was oddly shaped too 😉

Haha I laughed out loud at “how good do I look?” I’m sure I would be doing the same thing. That being said, I can NEVER find headbands that stay put, so I’m all in for yours if you do a giveaway!

Those headbands rock! When I was in color guard and volleyball some girls on the teams made sequin headbands and sparkly ribbons for us to wear in our hair. So much cheaper than the store versions and I still have mine today :)

These are SO cute! I cannot believe you made them yourself! I think when you make things and they actually WORK it is worth all of the gas to drive around and find the materials!

    Hey there!
I have a sweet 10 yr old daughter who has CP and can hold her head up very well. She is mentally “all there” and wants to wear her hair down in headbands like all the other 5th grade girls – she has been in cute “knots” on top of her head for several years but they are too “little kid” for her (so she says – I loved her knots!) Anyway, I’d love to buy one from you (or I’m down with the giveaway!) to see if it would really work for her. She’s not a sparkly girl though, she’s a sporty girl – plays on a walker/wheelchair soccer league. :) So no glitter…. :) Let me know if you can make one for her. Thanks!

      Hi, Ann!

Your daughter sounds like a great girl and I would love to make her a couple of headbands! I played soccer for 12 years and I know that she has to look tough out there on the field (;)), so I can definitely find non-glittered ribbon for her!

Feel free to email me at christineskari@gmail.com and you can tell me more about what she likes.. And I wouldn’t even consider having you pay for one- all little girls deserve to be able to style there hair however they want!

I look forward to hearing form you!

Would love to know how to buy one! I have tried everything under the sun…nothing works for me! Thanks!

I feel like i have tried every head band out there and cant find one that doesnt slip- off so for sure i would like to try this. Maybe its the one that will stay in place while i play softball and not having girls say her headband fell or losing them on the field. So where can i order and or buy one?

    • says

Hi Vanessa! I currently am not selling these, but I’ll let you know if I do! I’ve had a couple of people express interest in them, so I might just start up a small production of them :).

Do you think these would stay in place on babies/toddlers with very fine hair? It’s hard to find headbands that don’t eventually slide off by themselves (before my daughter figures out its on there and yanks it off herself). I like to buy some gender neutral clothes since we are planning to have more babies, but I want my girl to look like a girl, so I’m looking for a solution to this headband problem.

I think they would definitely stay on a babies head! The back is lined with velvet, so it’s very comfortable and non-abrasive on hair. It also doesn’t slip off :)
