When it comes to the meals Kyle and I usually make, things get pretty repetitive. You wouldn’t think so since I do so much cooking for the blog, but when I’m not creating or testing a new recipe, I just want to relax and eat a fast and easy meal.
Anyways, Kyle and I went on a big grocery store haul today, which prompted me to think about what meals are regulars in our apartments. Here’s a quick roundup of our favorites!
Panko Crusted Salmon via The Barefoot Contessa
Kyle is a huge salmon fan, so we get a big fillet or two every week. This recipe is delicious, fast, and bursting with flavor! We usually serve it with brown rice and roasted veggies.
Chicken, Veggie, and Sweet Potato Bake
We’ve already had this twice this week! Ridiculously easy, healthy, and gives you the perfect post-full feeling. To make it, we just cut up and season a butt-ton (it’s a measurement, okay?) of onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, and whatever else strikes our fancy, then layer an ass-haul (let’s keep the glute references going) of chicken breast (hahah..breasts… Yes, I’m 5 years old) and bake for 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees. Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce on the side for dipping!
Garlic Lemon Shrimp Orzo
Fresh, light, and addicting. One of those dinners where you just can’t wait to eat the leftovers!
Garlic Balsamic Brussels Sprouts
These are so addicting and I pop them in my mouth like candy. In Kyle’s words, “I could eat these all day”. I promise, they’ll turn you into a ‘sprout lover!
Grandma Ople’s Apple Pie
By far the best apple pie I’ve ever made and, I kid you not, I’ve made this pie at least 30 times. Seriously. It’s the top rated dessert on Allrecipes.com and is just outrageously delicious. The only adjustment I add is putting in some sea salt to make a salted caramel pie. Are you drooling yet?
Brown Sugar Banana Oats
I eat this at least once a day. I’ve realized that part of their tastiness comes from the oats I use for them. At Costco, they sell GIANT containers of Quaker Oats that are somewhere between quick cooking and steel cut and that have the best texture. I tried making the same banana brown sugar oats with the quick cooking version, and they was only a quarter as good. So go spend the $10 bucks at Costco to get a year’s supply of those oats! You won’t be sorry!
So there you have it! A super quick list of some meals on repeat for us.
Question of the Day: What’s a go-to meal for you?
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
I feel you – I’m the same way! It takes me so long to make something for the blog that when I am just making myself something, often times it’s the “Kitchen Sink Salad:” An enormous bowl (and I mean huge, you wouldn’t believe it) of romaine lettuce + kale, with every vegetable known to man, plus a lean protein of either chicken, turkey, cottage cheese or egg whites. Easy breezy and super healthy.
Of course, after that I usually eat an equally large bowl of ice cream, but whatever…

I luv Brussel Sprouts…can’t wait to try your receipe!
Leigha @ Minougirl says
I am ALL about easy, quick meals. I’m not the kind of person that craves variety – I mean, I eat the same breakfast and lunch everyday! I’d say my go to is peanut butter banana toast. Does it get any yummier than that?! And those oats you have sound awesome. I’ve gotta go to a costco!
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run says
Oh my gosh, the brussel sprouts and garlic lemon shrimp orzo both look soooooo good! 😀
Ashley @ Married to the Game says
We can’t get enough of salmon, oats, or sweet potato either! You should try sweet potato crust pizza. It’s AMAZING!
Lindsay @ Lindsay Weighs In says
I am the same way (except I’m not even creating any new recipes like you!) I eat the SAME stuff all the time, which is why I never do a WIAW post or anything like that because I feel everyone would get annoyed with how repetitive my meals are haha. You are the cutest too, love the picture of you at the grocery store. PS Please tell me you are coming to Blend!!!!
Ksenija @ With An Open Mind says
Go to meals make my life sooo much easier! I have a few in rotation that I make ALL the time. Funny thing: banana sugar oats are one of them! I usually add a dollop of peanut butter to make them extra delicious. Homemade chicken soup is another one. Takes a while to cook, but you can eat it for days. And 2-3 times a week I have a bowl of steamed rice topped with avocado, spinach and fish. Salmon, broccoli and rice is Jays and my go to dinner when we cook together. What’s not to love about salmon? And girl I am in love with your recipe for the veggie, chicken and sweet potato bake 😉
Diana @sosmallsostrong says
Hahaha I adore the “measurements”. This apartment is filled with go to meals but my personal fave is eggs and veggies with wheat toast topped with garlic olive oil. So simple yet so delicious…EVERY TIME!
Now please put that apple pie in my belly!! 😉
Miranda @ Loving Every Mile says
You’re so cute! I can vouch for the perfection of those banana brown sugar oats- they are AMAZZZZZZING.
Mary says
I’m awful for coming the same meals on repeat. Although the meals we have aren’t as fancy sounding as yours! Stock favourites of ours include; sausage casserole, sweet chili burgers, squash risotto and sausage pie.
Natalie @ lovenataliemarie says
By the looks of those pictures, I don’t think I’d ever get tired of those meals either. Oh my, apple pie is my favorite! 😀
My go-to meal.. usually a fancied up oatmeal, or if we go all savory I would have to say enchiladas.
Miss Polkadot says
I’m a meal repeater, too. Sometimes I just don’t feel creative and want a simple but satisfying meal. Depending on the time of the day oat bran creations [breakfast] or chilis and stews [lunch] are go-tos for me. Just the other day I thought I wouldn’t mind eating chili every day – the variations are endless after all, right?!
And how did I miss the recipe for the brussels sprouts?? They sound amazing.
Marina @ Lazy for Diet says
I have no time to prepare often therefore I try to choose dishes which can be changed easily. For example, salads or omelets… I can eat them every day 😉
Kayla says
I am huge on this! I like routine and LOVE my favorite meals. I roast a big batch of veggies on the weekends and eat them all week with spinach to make my ‘hot salads’ I top them with my favorite dressing and goat cheese. I also love making turkey meatloaf in my muffin tin!
Emily @smilemilegirl says
I laughed out loud at your measurements. Hehe I love your go-to recipes. They look so delicious and easy and perfect <3
Aurora@Fitness is Sweet says
I have extra thick rolled oats and they have the best texture! My go-to meal is probably grilled chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and a veggie (which often times ends up being your brussels sprouts!)
Jackie says
I am totally the same way! I really find that as much as I’d love to be creative in my meals all of the time, it just doesn’t happen.
The good news is that from time to time, my experiments in the kitchen because regular staples.

I can see why those meals are repetitive.. I mean helllooo they all sound delicious! We always have chicken salads once a week, along w/ quesadillas.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Lately I haven’t really had any go-to meals, though I wish I did! The shrimp dish looks really tasty, and I love salmon! We usually keep a lot of chicken and I’ve been letting the slow cooker do the work when it’s my day to cook.
