WIAW #4 & Body Fat Percentage LIES

Hey guys, happy Wednesday! I’ve been slacking lately on keeping up with What I Ate Wednesday every week, but I’m hoping to change that. Without further ado, here’s the daily noms!

Breakfast:

Greek yogurt with tons of fresh fruit before I headed out to the gym for a meet-up with one of the personal trainers there! I actually had a pretty cool experience talking to him and am excited about some upcoming advancements in both my health and fitness education. More on that at the end of the post!

Snackage:

No utensils needed! Go on and just stick your fingers right up in that good goop. Wahoooo!

Lunch:

Kyle and I went to a Thai restaurant for our midday meal and got the usual Beef Pad Thai (OMGSOGOOD) and ordered the chicken fried rice as well. We’re a pretty good sharing team and have switching plates down. A Thai iced tea on the side, of course!

That meal REALLY did me in. I’m basically a baby in that as soon as I eat a big meal, it’s nap time and I get cranky. I honestly don’t even know how Kyle puts up with me sometimes haha.

Post-Nap Recovery Ice Cream

That’s a category, right?

Dinner:

Miso-glazed salmon with brown rice and sautéed asparagus. Yum.

So now that you’ve seen my entire day’s eats, we’re basically bffls for life right? Wait, best friends for life for life? Whatever. We be rollin’ like peanut buttah and jelly, yo.

SO. Back to my day at the gym. Since I just joined up a new one, I get an initial evaluation of fitness goals along with a free personal training session. I’m really lazy about contacting someone about actually using them, so I was lucky when a personal trainer approached me yesterday mid-walking lunge. I felt extremely flattered when he asked me if I competed since I’ve never really considered myself that strong or toned looking. Anyways, he was pretty eager to set me up with an appointment to do my evaluation, which is what I did today. We had a great talk ranging from the importance of strength training for bone density (don’t even get me started, I can rant for hours about it), getting certified as a personal trainer, and even theories about the existence of God/religion in general. It was a pretty deep talk for only having met for 5 minutes the day before haha.

He offered to give me all his study supplies/text books for basically every certification that exists, which is awesome since the tests themselves cost a bundle. His passion for his job is astounding and I had a wonderful time talking about subjects that really speak to myself as well.

I also had a body fat percentage test done, which turned out really interestingly for me. I’ve gotten one done before, and was a bit dismayed over my results, which placed me as average. While I didn’t get caught up over it, I expected to have been placed at least in the “athletic range”. However, as he was taking my measurements he exclaimed that my skin is extremely thick (weird, I know) and so the numbers he was getting were no where near correct. I’ve never noticed it before, but he had me pinch my skin and then his and he’s right, I’m a freak! Woot!

It was exciting to find out that I have a much lower percentage than what my previous results told me :).

So feel free to hurl your insults at me because I literally have thick skin!

What was the best thing you ate today?

Repetitive Breakfast & New Workout Top

Hey guys! Hope everything is good and well with you.

Breakfast has been pretty repetitive these last few weeks, my morning meal tends to gravitate towards either greek yogurt with cottage cheese, fruit, and granola or whole wheat english muffins with delicious toppings :). Boring, but hey, it gets the job done!

After digesting for a little and cleaning up a bit around the house, I mosey-d on over to TJ Maxx before hitting up the gym. They have such a fabulous selection of workout clothes that I can’t help but be drawn to the store… at least that’s what I tell myself. I found this super cute dry-fit tank top to add to my collection of 47382947892374 other different tops. BUT YOU GUYS. IT WAS ONLY $16. It would have been a crime not to get it.

I promise this was after my workout. I actually do more than just take selfies in cute activewear ;). I had the hardest time getting this picture because I didn’t want to look like some self-absorbed freak in the locker room and had to do it on the sly. The things I do for you guys! (just kiddin’) Thumbs up for neon colors!

My workout for the day consisted of 30 minutes on the elliptical following this workout. I tacked on another 10 minutes at level 10 to round it out to 30 minutes.

20 Minute Elliptical Interval Workout Does anyone else have a problem with their feet getting numb from being on the elliptical? It’s been happening to me for the last half year or so and I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing differently.

After my elliptical-ing, I hit up the weights to train my lower body. I did a mess of deadlifts, squats, lunges, etc. I actually really do enjoy training my booty and legs. It’s a challenge, but I always leave with the worked-out feeling that has me feeling pretty darn accomplished.

Every time.

Every time.

I finished my time at the gym with 15 minutes of incline walking and headed home for lunch! Today featured a simple tuna sammich and some crackers and fresh fruit.

The rest of the day passed by in somewhat of a blur and my night was spent finishing up Pearl Harbor with Kyle and eating frosted flakes and cookie dough ice cream. Can I get an amen for the beautiful sight that greeted my eyes when I opened the contained? Is this real life?

IMG_2567That’s about it for today!

What’s your go-to breakfast?

Anyone else have an obsession with workout clothes?

Color Me Rad Fun!

Hey guys! I’ve had a great day so far.

IMG_2500

I woke up at 6:30 this morning excited to run my first ever Color Run! I bought a groupon for it a while back and have been waiting for the day to come for a good while! Since it was only a 5k and my stomach is not big on eating early in the morning, I just had a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter on one side and jelly and Norwegian cheese on the other. I had a little bit of time to catch up on blogs while I sipped on coffee and wanted to wish Miranda good luck on her half marathon! You go girl!

IMG_2492

After a little while, Kyle came to pick me up before we both headed over to get my two cousins who were also running. It was a bit intimidating running with them, especially my youngest cousin, because they run cross country. Luckily, he had run a fast 7 miles the day before and didn’t mind going at my pace ;).

IMG_2497

The Color Me Rad race took place at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles and looped around the entirety of the property. About every 5 minutes, a different color was thrown at us and it was way too much fun screaming and yelling with the volunteers as they bombarded us with the colored cornstarch! I have to say, this race went by SO fast. I would definitely recommend this race to anyone as it was so casual and focused more on having a great time rather than actually racing for a time. We came out looking like this!

IMG_2499

After our run, we stopped to get some delicious and freshly made lemonade. It was so good! Strawberry was definitely the way to go ;).

Color Run Lemonande

As we got into the car and tried to maneuver ourselves onto some towels, we noticed some brochures of some other races coming up! They were for muddy races with obstacles, and I feel like I caught the fever for short and fun runs. If anyone is in the LA area and would possibly like to meet up, I’d be more than game ;)!

The plan for the rest of the day is to head over to the Grandma’s house for some home cookin’ and more blog reading. I’ve asked this before, but I’m looking to expand my blog-reading horizons and would love to find some more! Let me know if you’d like me to check yours out :).
