Hi friends! How is life going for you?
This quarter has been flying by for me (a good thing, the sooner this year is over, the better!) and it’s time for yet another rendition of WIAW. Eats lately have been decent, but a bit rushed and I haven’t had too much time for cooking.
Breakfast:
Brown sugar banana oats. Are you tired of seeing this picture and breakfast yet? Confession: I recycle pictures of my oats and other foods I eat regularly because I ALWAYS end up getting food on my camera. And because it’s hard to whip out a photoshoot when I have yummy oats sitting right there with melty brown sugar. And because my camera battery is hardly ever charged over .0052%.
After breakfast I biked over to our local gym to get in a quick workout. I didn’t mention it on AoME, but last week I got a pretty nasty cold and that, coupled with an ochem midterm I had on Monday, left me with zero motivation to work out. I did a quick 25 minuted of cardio before a leg workout and am definitely feeling it everywhere in my body haha. This girl will be sleeping well tonight!
I finished my workout and went to my physics lecture before grabbing some lunch in the 45 minute break I had. I was planning on going with a sandwich from Subway, but our university center was overflowing with visiting high schoolers and the lines were ridiculous. I opted for a build-your-own salad since the line there was much smaller.
Since salads never keep me full after a hard workout, I also got a double shot latte and a Fiber One bar to have along with it.
After lunch I had a section for my stats class, followed by an unsuccessful trip to the molecular biology counseling office to figure out some nitpicky things about my schedule next Fall. Then, it was home for a small break before I had to go to my lab.
Luckily, it was a fun one that involved playing with some sea critters and a squid dissection (interesting) and a worm dissection (not so interesting). The dissections weren’t too in-depth and went by smoothly since I had done other more tricky cat and pig dissections back in high school. The highlight was definitely holding an octopus, though. They feel SO bizarre and I couldn’t help but squeal the entire time, hence the scrunched up shoulders haha.
Wait… Let me take a selfie. Squid selfie?
After lab, Kyle and I picked up some Freebird’s nachos to split along with fresh strawberry lemonade to share. SO GOOD. SO MUCH FOOD.
And as of now, I’m snacking on some coffee and dark chocolate while doing some studying. Brain energy!
Question of the Day: What’s the best thing you’ve eaten this week?
Jessie says
mmmm that fresh strawberry lemonade sounds so good!!! Like I want one right about now. Along w/ those nachos. So if you could send some this way I’d be forever grateful. Thanks!
Arman @ thebigmansworld says
Is it creepy that the best thing I’ve eaten this week was actually salt and pepper octopus?
Those nachos are screaming to have my face planted in it. Keep juggling it all like a boss!
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
That squid selfie is too funny! I love it. Those nachos look amazing. I want some right now!

First of all, I love brown sugar in oatmeal. I haven’t had banana with brown sugar but have had maple with brown sugar and I love love love it. This is coming from a girl who can’t STAND maple syrup. I absolutely hate it and avoid it at all costs! Butttt, for some reason I can’t get enough of the flavor in oatmeal. Crazy, I know!
Ahh that is sooooo cool! I’d love to see an octopus up close and personal like that. I bet it felt so weird! Glad you had some fun!
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate says
Oh my gosh, that octopus! I would be squirming too! I have been loving oatmeal lately…mix in some peanut butter and chocolate chips and its heavenly!
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
Ahhh that octopus! So squirmy. But THOSE NACHOS. I’ll take those any day.
Hilary says
That octopus, so cool! I would love to hold one haha. Those nachos look fantastic! Totally making something similar for dinner tonight
Autumn Wieland says
Life is going marvelous, thank you very much! heh.
Aw sick! That octopus is rather disgusting! 😛
But your salad looks really good! and of coursssse the latte sounds amazing. derrr.
Have a great day!
*would you mind adding a blog roll section to your blog? Or maybe you already have one and I’m not seeing it? thanks!
Christine Skari says
So glad life is going well for you <3!
Haha I thought it was adorable! But in a really weird way ;). I think I get it from my roommate, Kelty. She LOVES weird animals and her favorite one is a bat! Guess her weirdness rubs off on me lol.
I definitely will add a blog roll section in! I can also shoot you an email of some of my favorites in the meantime, if you'd like, since it'll probably take a week or so to get one up :). Let me knoww!!
Autumn Wieland says
Now I like some weird things, too! Like unicorns for example, I really like unicorns! But I don’t know why…probably because no one else I know likes them. Im always attracted to the things that nobody else is! me. strange.
That would be great, but ONLY if you have the time to do it! Your so busy I don’t want to add one more thing to your plate! But if you do shoot me an email, thank you very much! But if you don’t get around to it, then ill see the blog roll on YOUR amazing blog in a week or so! no biggie!
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Eeeeeeep. Squids, octopi, and all manner of squishy slimy things give me the heebie jeebies. I remember doing a worm dissection in university and wondering what the heck there was to see in there. Turns out… not much. Thank you, school, for another bit of info that I’ll never use 😆
Hope you’re feeling better, lovely! <3
Jordan @ The Blonde Vegan says
Hahaha I ALWAYS end up getting food on my camera too!! It’s actually kind of gross/embarrassing when I bring it out with me because of the little particles of my dried oats, etc. Only food bloggers will understand 😉 and omg you are so cute with that squid selfie. Get it girl!! And I am glad that you’re feeling better from your nasty cold… yucko!
Miranda says
Ugh I am so not built to be a bio major! My first interaction with dissections was in 7th grade when we had to dissect frogs, and then in 9th grade we dissected fetal pigs. Ooooooh man I was scarred for life. I had to dissect a cow brain for my brain & addiction class I took my senior year but that wasn’t quite as bad SINCE IT DIDN’T HAVE A FACE. 😉
cait @pieceofcait says
dark chocolate always gives me that boost!
Leslee @ Her Happy Balance says
Hmm, best thing I’ve eaten all week was probably roasted chicken for dinner on Monday. It was leftover from a big party and whoever made it has my heart…at least they did that Monday 😉
Diana @sosmallsostrong says
Your face is classic in the squid picture!!! Nachos = Delicious
Leigha @ Minougirl says
Don’t you LOVE when a workout helps you sleep well?! But those nachos doe. oh em gee. The seniors at my school just dissected cats… we went to look at them in my science class..sad Leigha!!
Aurora@Fitness is Sweet says
Hahaha I love the squid selfie!
Danielle says
I need to try out some brown sugar in my oatmeal, that looks so good! I love the squid selfie haha.. adorable. The best thing I’ve eaten this week will be some chocolate chip cookies I’m about to make!
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run says
I love coffee and dark chocolate. Rock on, Christine! Also, I’m out of oatmeal, but I need to try your oats!
Jess @ PB & Jess says
Hahahaha omg you are too cute in the pic with the octopus!
Natalie @ lovenataliemarie says
I don’t think I could ever dissect another animal again after I had to dissect a frog. TOO GROSS FOR ME. D: At least you had some good food. 😉
