Weekend Things/MIMM!

Happy Monday, all! I hope you’re feeling rested and ready to take on a new week. This weekend was just what the doctor ordered for me and I felt like I was finally able to relax and set my mind at ease for the first time in ages. Here’s a marvelous weekend recap!

After I got back home on Friday from my day of classes and stats test, I took a looonngg two hour nap to try to shake off some of my tiredness. Whenever I’m under a lot of stress from my classes, I don’t really sleep because I’m up late/early studying or I sleep restlessly since I dream of whatever I’m learning. You would think this would be helpful (studying in your sleep, woohoo!), but it’s the complete opposite since I’m subconsciously trying to solve problems with no answers. I end up waking up early from panic and then feel like I don’t know anything since I could’t solve my imaginary problems. Go figure haha.

ANYWAYS, I promise I didn’t come here to complain! My point is that I slept and it was beautiful.

Kyle and I had a date night planned to celebrate my freedom and went to grab some sushi and watch the movie Transcendence. Not my favorite film, but nonetheless it felt great to get out of the house and actually wear real-people clothes. Sweatpants are great, but after a week and half straight they tend to get a bit old.

Casual date night outfit!

After we got back, we spent some time hanging out with some of our European friends. A little while later, I ended up heading to bed while Kyle went out to a tennis party.

Saturday was a shopping day! My housemate, Lakshmi, and I drove down to State Street to peruse the stores and eat lunch with Kelty and her mom. I ordered the chicken caeser salad and it was delicious!

As far as purchases go, I got a steal on two white baking dishes from Sur La Table, as well as the cutest new workout top from Forever21 (only $15!) and a gorgeous new floral cardigan. To test out the larger of my two baking dishes, I made a mouthwatering cheesy chicken and broccoli pasta bake for dinner and it was the perfect post-workout meal. Cheese+pasta= [emoji white smiling face] [emoji heavy black heart] .

DSC_2159I woke up bright and early on Sunday morning feeling refreshed and ready to go. Since I hadn’t been to the grocery store in almost two weeks, I was in dire need to restock my pantry and fridge. Am I the only one who adores grocery shopping? I honestly could wander up and down the isles for hours checking out new products and imagining what I could make with them. Don’t even get me started about how much time I waste in Whole Foods!

Once back, I ate a quick breakfast before grabbing a triple shot latte and banana bread with Kyle and heading over to the library. I read my physics textbook for almost three hours straight before calling realizing my brain was mush and that my productivity levels had reached a standstill.

We headed back home, ate lunch, and relaxed before driving the gym for a quick workout. I ended up doing 30 minutes of varied cardio before hitting up the weights for a back routine. After getting back, I did a few small blog-maintenance things before walking over to a local froyo shop to bond with some of the girls I’m living with next year! I know a handful of them already, but can already tell that I’m going to LOVE my new housemates and they’re all just extremely down to earth, outgoing, and sweet. Plus we’re living ocean-side (seriously, you open up the windows and all you can see is ocean) on our school’s “party street”, so I’m expecting my upcoming year to be much more relaxing and fun.

Image 2 I ended the night by watching the new Game of Thrones episode with the boy and finishing up some chemistry/physics note-taking.

So that was my eventful weekend! It’s back to the grind now, but my second round of midterms are much more spaced out (aka not 3545345 in one week), so hopefully I’ll have time to completely catch up on my Bloglovin’ feed and spend some time doing “me” things.

Question of the Day: What was the highlight of your weekend?

Dang girl!! You crammed so much into your weekend. Sounds lke such a blast though. I can’t believe y’all will be moving into a place basically right on the water. Before moving to Kuwait, Joshua and I lived in VA Beach right on the water. It’s beautiful & each morning you truly do realize just how lucky and blessed you are! Good luck w/ the remainder of your finals, darling oxox

Expect a gate crasher next year…just saying.

I know I sound like a broken record but you have such a balanced approach to healthy living…minus the unhealthy amount of study you did. You of course, have me craving sushi too. Hello, fake crab.

  3. says

YES for a more relaxing weekend–that is so good to hear :) I NEED a white baking dish. Mine are clear now and they’re fine but…. whenever I see white ones in photos I think of how “sharp” they look. Yeah….sharp is the first word that comes to mind lol I guess “nice” would work too.

I completely know what you mean! I have a baby blue baking dish as well, but it never quite did the trick for that gorgeous contrast you get with the white!

  4. says

Glad you got to relax a little this weekend! Love that date night outfit. You and Kyle are too cute! I’m so jealous you’re going to be living by the water next year. How cool is that?!?! My school was nowhere near an ocean :( . Toooo baaaad because I would have loved that. Also, after looking at the picture of your froyo I have major craving for some…never mind that I just ate breakfast lol. Those two things go together…right? 😉

I still can’t believe that you can sit down and focus that long on studying! You make me sounds like I have a severe case of ADHD or something! You are one dedicated chick! But its so nice you got to have a relaxing weekend (and nap!)
A house full of friends. on the beach. on party street. what?? that sounds so EPIC!
Highlight of my weekend: being able to work outside and get dirty all of Saturday! and work up a nice farmers tan :*

    • says

The key to focusing that long is a big latte with 3 shots of espresso and being parked in the library ;). I’ve found that I have a much harder time concentrating in my room, but as soon as I get to the library, I get super productive! Go figure. It must be the atmosphere I’m guessing!

Yum! Farmer’s tans are great hahah ;). I’m sure you’re rockin’ it!

UGH I so understand dreaming of school…just last night I think I tried to solve 10+ binomial theorem problems. NOT restful at all! This weekend we were moving so it was pretty much the opposite of relaxing, but here’s hoping we get the last of it done today and next weekend is much better. :)

How did you plan to live with people if you haven’t met them yet? I’m just curious/excited!

    • says

Yuck to the binomial theorem problems! Are you taking a statistic class where you have to do them :)?

I’m living in a BIG house with 11 other girls, so I know a handful of them really well, but it’s basically a big collection of mutual friends so I haven’t really gotten to know about half of them yet since a good number of them are friends of my friends. I can tell I’m going to love living with them already, though!

  7. says

Sounds like a great weekend to me! I love your workout top. I’m obsessed with ones that have cut-outs in the back like that. I’m also totally craving frozen yogurt now!

My weekend highlights included a good run outside and spending a ton of time with one of my best friends.

  8. says

    That. Sushi. WHAT.

I LOVE white dishes in photographs–but I hate trying to photograph them. It’s really hard to get them to actually look white rather than too cool or too warm. I know you can go back and edit them afterwards, but I still can never manage to get the shade just right.

Or maybe I’m just dumb or inept. That’s totally a possibility too. (See: reasons I don’t do food photography. :P)

    • says

      I KNOW. Sushi=life.

I know what you mean about the white dishes giving off different color tones. I always have trouble with my white balance when I take photos with them and usually need to correct it so they don’t look slightly blue.

  9. says

You’re definitely not the only one who gets excited when she comes across awesome dishes. I walked into Anthropologie the other day and I actually spent more time looking at their cute dishes than I did at their clothes. Priorities, right? And the best part of my weekend was, hands down, a couple of good afternoon naps. I kind of ran myself ragged last week and was lacking on sleep BIG time. I managed to catch up this weekend though, and it was bliss. I’m a nightmare when I lack sleep!

    • says

Story of my life! Glad I’m not the only one, must be a food photographer thing ;). It definitely pays off, though, since just changing a few small things about your photo setup makes a HUGE difference.

Ohh yess to the afternoon naps. Nothing better than slowly waking up <3.

My favorite kind of shopping is grocery shopping. I always discover new items and that is my favorite part of grocery shopping. I’d pick grocery shopping over clothes shopping any day!

  11. says

Yummm I couldn’t tell you the last time I ate froyo! So good. Your weekend sounds great. I’m the same way with exams- I sleep terribly. Although I can’t make myself stay up later than normal because I know I’m not productive at all. That workout top is too cute. Not that I need ANY more clothes, but I kind of want that. Really badly.

  12. says

You definitely aren’t the only one who adores grocery shopping! I love just perusing the aisles and looking at everything. It’s relaxing for some odd reason. I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to have a Whole Foods. I would never leave! Your outfit on your date night with Kyle is adorable too! That’s exciting that you’ll be living right next to the ocean for next year! I live in the desert so it’s hard for me to imagine living near a body of water haha! Anyways, the highlight of my weekend was dinner with my best girlfriends and relaxing with my boy.

    • says

Whole Foods is the devil when you’re crunched for time haha. Aww thanks love! It feels nice to put on real-people clothes now and then ;). Glad you were able to get in some relaxing as well!

  13. says

That sounds like such a great weekend :) Plus the food! Sushi, froyo yum! The highlight of my weekend was trying some new eats and whole foods hot bar of course :)

  14. says

First off, let me just say, you and Kyle just make the sweetest looking couple! I love that workout top you found too–what a steal for $15. I need to find some more food and cooking props for photos…definitely putting that on my to-do list. Oh, I LOVE grocery shopping as well and you have to drag me out of places like Whole Foods or Fresh Market. Heck, even the local farmer’s market. Ha! Glad you had a great weekend! Mine was pretty low key, but I have a bunch of stuff coming up soon–my birthday, Wade’s (my boyfriend) graduation, friends’ graduation, friend’s birthday, a social media conference….So getting busy fast!

  15. says

I am a HUGE Johnny Depp fan, he’s one of my favorite actors of all time because he is so talented and versatile and tackles those quirky roles that many wouldn’t. But after seeing the previews for Transcendence I am not at all excited about it and really don’t have much desire to see it. JD, come back to me. I miss his fun roles!

Buttttt sushi clearly fixes everything. :)

Fro-yo is just something that I can’t do in cold weather, which means that our fro-yo time in WI is about a three to four month window. I can’t WAIT to finally get there again. This winter has been far too long!

  16. says

Sounds like you had such a lovely weekend!! Thoughts: I am in love with the floral cardigan you bought. The sushi looks bomb. I miss/love State Street. I am excited for you to live with a new group of girls in such a fun area of SB! You’re going to love it. Totally jealous of the beautiful California weather right now and all of those sleeveless outfits you and your friends are sportin’!

  17. says

That floral cardigan is BEYOND adorable! I also went shopping myself this past weekend. I scored some new dresses, winning! I’ll finally be that girly girl (when not in the gym) I’ve always wanted to be! 😀
