Thinking Out Loud: Packages, Eyebrows, and Other Thoughts

Happy Thursday, everyone! It’s almost the weekend which means a little more relaxation as well as having extra time to study and get some freelance work done. It also means that it’s one of my favorite days for blogging since today is Thinking Out Loud! Hosted by my favorite utensil, Spoons! (aka Amanda from Running With Spoons)

So let the word vomit commence!

1. One thing that’s always made me giddy is receiving packages. Or any mail in general. I think it has to do with growing up in the age of technology, but getting things by snail-mail make me feel all tingly inside. Especially if it involves an adorable gift from a bloggy friend! My friend Miranda and I have been exchanging care packages, and she was so sweet to send me some huckleberry jam! Such a thoughtful gift that’s unique to where she lives. Thanks, love!

It just so happened that everything seemed to come in the mail at once, so along with Miranda’s package, I also received a box of Kind bars to review and a crock pot I had ordered. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning with all those boxes waiting to be ripped open!

Kind Bars Variety Pack

Coolest packaging award goes to the people over at Kind! You open the box and everything falls out perfectly organized. The engineer in Kyle loved it and his first words when he saw it were “I appreciate that”.

I tried the dark chocolate sea salt bar and was literally (not figuratively, I was there, I swear) in heaven. SO GOOD.

The next few months for me are going to be pretty busy, so I wanted a solution on how to keep Apple of My Eye running when I’m stretched for time. I’m planning on throwing together a mess of ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning before my 8 a.m classes and being able to come back and have the food all ready for their photo shoot as well as a nice hot lunch. Confession: even though I’m a food blogger, when I’m not actually cooking for AoME, I usually just end up grazing on cereal/oatmeal/leftovers/bagels/toast/nut butter because I’m too lazy to cook for myself. Hopefully I can get myself out of that habit!

Stay tuned for a recipe for crock pot chicken caesar sandwiches and apple crisps (<—pie’s closest kin) in the near future.

2. A while back I mentioned that Kyle had helped me with a DIY project to make a faux table for my food photography. It came out wonderfully and I love how much character the wood brings to my pictures! The only real photos I’ve taken for the blog on it were for my Blueberry Pie Oatmeal, but I can already tell it’s going to be a huge asset for improving my photography :).

Healthy Blueberry Pie Oatmeal! Done in just 10 minutes and so delicious!

My favorite part would have to be the rich color and fun accents on the wood.

Kyle wrote up a step-by-step instruction post on how he made it, so if it’s something you’re potentially interested in doing yourself, look for his post tomorrow night :).

3. So this is going to be a weird statement, but I don’t really have eyebrows. I mean, I do, but they’re pretty light and definitely not defined. I guess I have to count my blessings, though, since I’m relatively hairless except for the hair on my head so I don’t need to shave my legs too often. Not that I really shave my legs for half the year anyways when it’s cold. Jeans/legging weather=mini forrest on my legs. Too much information? Yep. ANYWAYS. Going back to eyebrows. My roommate, Kelty, has the  fiercest eyebrows in town and, as we like to say, “they could kill a man”. We read a Buzzfeed article together about about “14 Before and After Photos That Prove Good Eyebrows Can Change Your Entire Face” and I had her fill them in since I was too much of an eyebrow-coward to really go over them darkly since I thought it looked weird, but I like how it looks! Penciled-in eyebrows for the win!

4. Going off makeup, I’m still going strong with my obsession with red lipstick. Everyday, all day!

Annddd that’s all for now! It’s almost 1 in the morning and I really need to get to bed. Sleep tight!

Question of the Day: Could your eyebrows kill a man?

That table turned out awesome- what a perfect vehicle for the food photography (and backstory behind it!)

Even though I’m an absolute twat with anything DIY, still keen on the post!

Loooove kind bars! Your food photography is also really on point girl.. I need to work on mine haha. I’ve been growing my eyebrows out and it’s the best decision I’ve made! Mine used to be pencil thin, but I look 10x better with thicker eyebrows. I pencil mine in, too, especially when growing them out!

I was going to ask you if that background was the result of your DIY project! Looks awesome, girlie 😀 I picked up some new boards this week that I’m super happy with, but one can never have enough — definitely looking forward to the tutorial!

PS- you look gorgeous with red lips <3

I still want/NEED to make one of those wooden boards–yours turned out great! Also so did your eyebrows hhaa one of my best friends pencils in her eyebrows too. It’s not noticeable and it really does make a huge difference.

I’m pretty sure my eyebrows could kill a LOT of things! These suckers take a lot of up keep and can get out of control very fast!
Ohhh, I love the table! It turned out great!
Also, you look really good with bold lipstick! It’s adorable with your dark hair and eyes! :)

Holy crap that box is beautiful. I can’t speak from an engineering standpoint, or even a semi-informed standpoint on the issue, I can say that that’s some well-thought-out packaging!

So I’ve never noticed the eyebrow thing until you pointed it out. That being said, I think you look beautiful either way. :)

Kind bars are the best! They’re the only ones that aren’t too sweet for me. I have yet to tire of them, and I get over things I love quickly because I over-consume them haha!
I love your DIY table! Wood is really great for providing contrast and looks good in pretty much any photo. Looking forward to Kyle’s post :)

  8. says

Oh you are not the only one with weak eyebrows! Mine are too! So bland just like my hair color haha. I am loving that red lipstick though :)

  9. says

Ok first of all I totally agree that getting things by snail-mail make me feel all tingly inside…. must be a product of our young-20s-ness and the fact that we never really HAD to receive mail by snail-mail unless we were at camp or something… And omg I laughed out loud about your eyebrow statement. You totally make them look good, girl! And that wooden table is fab. I need to read Kyle’s how-to. Power couple, you two, I’m telling ya!!!

  10. says

I always get excited when I see either a letter or package comes in the mail for me. It’s like Christmas! I think that’s sweet that you both send each other care packages. :)
I love the DIY table! It has such a nice color to it.

  11. says

Hahahaha I haven’t shaved my legs since October. Good to know I’m not alone :) I love getting mail! And I agree, everything always comes at the same time! I would have never known your eyebrows were penciled in. I get told that I have perfect eyebrows.. I’m not complaining lol!

  12. says

Um…I too would be one happy lady to receive all of those packages at once. And, what a sweet gift with that jam.

I am totally in a distressed wood phase these days so I’m in love with that table. I just got a new job (YAY) and a new apt. and the entire apartment is covered in distressed wood everywhere. It’s my thang 😉

  13. says

So, you’re pretty much ridiculously gorgeous, and I sort of hate you for it. Kidding. :)
I want to rock the red lip SO BADLY, but Im a ginger, so finding a red that wont wash me out or make me look dumb is a bit stressful for me. I was thinking of trying those Just Bitten though, simply because I’ve heard so many good things about them!

  14. says

My eyebrows don’t exactly hold killing power, but I reckon if I left my legs to develop into a veld it would kill 😉 . So I’m a big fan of waxing!
Filling in with a pencil is such an easy cool trick. And yayyy for bitten-red lips! Gives a face extra glow :) .
Love the warmth that the wood prop lends to your pictures!

Snail mail is THE BEST! I swear I get so giddy when the mail comes every day. It’s a little ridiculous sometimes…haha. And that blueberry pie oatmeal?…I die. Pie is also my favorite dessert. I mean, I definitely get where you come from with your obsession of it. I could write a love song to pie. I’m from the South, pie is just a staple dessert! Thanks for sharing that recipe!
