WIAW #5: Giveaway! Tasty Food Photography eBook

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! I’m so excited for this post because

  1.  I’m hosting my first ever giveaway!
  2.  I can actually show you in my WIAW post how much the item I’m giving away has already benefited me!

I mentioned in yesterday’s Marvelous in My Monday post that I had recently purchased an eBook from the lovely Lindsay at Pinch of Yum and have been thrilled with how much it’s taught me in just a few days. I mean, really, this lady makes it so easy to understand photography and has step by step instructions on how to make your photos stunning! I emailed her thanking her for writing such a wonderful book and, after a little communicating, I became an affiliate and she offered to give one lucky reader a free copy of her eBook!

tasty-food-photographyHere are just a few of the things that come in this easy to read and understand beauty:

  • Technical Tips: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
  • Composition Tips: orientation, composition idea, and movement
  • Lighting Tips: window hunting, scraping, and folded paper trick
  • Props and Set Up Tips: prop ideas and organization, set-up process
  • Editing Tips: photoshop, lightroom, and iPhoto

Don’t know what a lot of these mean? Don’t worry, I didn’t either! But, Lindsay explains them so easily and with so many helpful explaining photos that you’ll pick it up in no time.

DSC_1055DSC_1071Dinner: Dinner today was a lazy one. A whole wheat bagel, cream cheese, lox, and onions as well as the last of my kabocha on the side :(

DSC_1068 DSC_1277So there they are! I already feel like my photos have improved dramatically and I’m only on day two of having the book. I’m so excited to learn more!

  • Kyle will be writing his guest post soon about a guy’s thoughts on how women negatively pick apart their body and what he considers, along with many other men, to be the most important and beautiful aspects of a girl. Stay tuned for his post on Thursday or Friday!

Hope you had some great eats as well!

Wow your photos really look amazing! So clear and great colors! I’ve taken a few journalism photography classes at my university and so photography has become a new hobby/love of mine. I just got a Nikon d90 for my birthday in June and would love to get this e-book that has tips for food photography so my blog pictures will be better.

The last thing I took a picture of was my quinoa seeds sprouting! I would LOVE to win a copy of Tasty Food Photography beacause, even though I have a fancy-schmancey DSLR camera, and food is what I take pictures of the most, I feel as though my pictures aren’t quite up to fancy-schmancey par. 😛

The last thing I photographed was my food throughout the day, yesterday, for WIAW. I have got to learn my camera and you don’t know how much I want to win this book!!!! Thanks for a great giveaway!

Looks like you’re already learning a lot. Your pictures look great!

Bagel for dinner? Best idea EVER! You can never go wrong with a bagel, no matter the time of day 😉
I have got to find those oreo cookies! And baby pb cups??? Oh man, I’ve got to get my hands on those!

Your pictures look great, I should really invest in that book. I love the idea for your man’s view guest post! So clever! Maybe I’ll try to get my man to write a post…I think you’ve started something pretty good here! Haha!

Girlie, your photos look awesome! I’ve never actually read a book on photography–I’m too lazy to, hah. For now I just adjust knobs and snap away and pretend like I sort of know what I’m doing. If I had time, I’d definitely check the book out and try to learn a thing or two. :)

Yay for your first giveaway! I Hope I can do one soon! Ah your pictures are amazing, I didn’t know there was a book about this stuff! First, though, I NEED a camera that’s not on my phone, haha! :) That corn chowder is healthy? WIN! I love that kind of soup over a brothy one but always pass because I know it’s likely full of fat… Hmm, totally intrigued. Have a lovely day!

The last thing I took a picture of was a cavity prep I did (I am a dental student) and the reason why I want to win the camera is because I want to start blogging about my adventures in baking desserts.

  9. says

oh i love a cream cheese and lox bagel anytime! thats a great dinner as far as im concerned! i love the idea of adding onions, i sometimes add capers :) i am the worst when it comes to photography, this would be helpful to say the least!

  10. says

Your pics look great! I’d love this e-book to pick up some little tricks for taking photos. :) I normally end up so hungry by the time I’ve made my food my photo ends up really rushed and not as good as it could be. :(

  11. says

Wow! I can’t believe how much your photos have improved! They look great!! I’m always looking to improve my photography (definitely not my strong point). So I’ll need to enter this giveaway STAT. Also, the oreo shake looks amazing.

  12. says

That is an awesome guest post idea! I’d love to hear a guy’s perspective. The last thing that I took a picture of was my breakfast (#foodie problems). I’d like to win a copy because I love having new recipes!

After seeing your post the other day about the ebook on food photography from Pinch of Yum, I was contemplating buying one, so I’m so happy you’re giving one away for free. I really want to experiment with my food photography more. Sometimes I’m a bit guilty of just point and shoot.

The last thing I took a picture of was my breakfast, just on my phone, which I posted on Instagram.

Your chowder looks delicious and that smoothie looks yum.

  14. says

This is a great day of eats! I just stumbled upon your blog, and I’m happy that I did! I took a picture of my last piece of toast, haha. I need some help on the food photography!

  15. says

Letting Kyle write a post about his view on the topic is a great idea and I’m already curious to read it! It’s not something I’ve ever talked about with guys before so it’s going to be really interesting.
That’s such a fantastic giveaway because I still have lots to learn about photography and trial & error only gets you so far. The last picture I took was one of my friends earlier today because I don’t have enough of them yet and we’ll soon move apart. Better start collecting memories now, I guess …

  16. says

Still think kabocha looks like something I need to try. That chowder looks really good – do you have a recipe for it? As for healthy-oreo-style-cookies, I think I need these…although I doubt they’d still be healthy if I polished off the entire box, which I think I’d be pretty likely to do…

  17. says

Oh boy oh boy! thats definitely something I could useover here.. I just started blogging and I’m uber disappointed in my photo taking skills lol sad face.
Also, very much looking forward to Kyle’s post! I suffer with body shaming syndrome, I’m working on it 😉

  18. says

My photography skills are horrible, all these pictures look wonderful! Is it sad that one of the things in this post that stuck out to me was eating the last of the kabocha? Finishing off the kabocha is a BIG deal!

  19. says

The last thing I took a picture of was a package of goodies I received in the mail yesterday. I think I basically NEED this book. I don’t exactly have a fancy camera, although I do have a camera and I should use it more often instead of my iPhone, but I’m sure I could benefit from the book immensely.

  20. says

The last pic I took was of my Overnight Oats!! I want to win a copy because I love to try new things and everything looks so yummy!
