Workouts of Late and Practical Uses of Bananas. Also, Food.

Hi friends! Today Im linking up with WIAW to share some food tidbits . Thanks, Jenn, for hosting!

I’ve been a bit busy this week, but I’m using a peaceful  morning to get some blogging-related things done. Here’s a few life updates:

Workouts have been going well!

Lately, Kyle and I have been making an effort to get to the gym together. I love how going with another person motivates you! Our big campus gym is relatively close to us (about a 15 minute walk), so we also get some time to just enjoy each other’s company. Not to mention the weather here is absolutely gorgeous. Not a cloud in the sky and 72-75 degrees with our ocean breeze :).

We’ve been sticking to 20-35 minutes of cardio in the beginning (usually a treadmill workout for him, more variation for me), followed by a weight lifting session together. Yesterday we got in a terribly terrific triceps/chest workout and the day before that, back and biceps. I’m definitely feeling it today haha!

gym date!

It turns out bananas have many functions.

After a trip to the grocery store, I was going to unlock the front door of my apartment complex when I noticed something a bit off. Someone decided that using a banana as a door stop was a good idea. I swear, only in college. #collegelife

 New food discoveries!

Recently, I went home for the weekend and my mom introduced me to Kefir. It’s basically a delicious yogurt-smoothie that’s high in protein, calcium, and probiotics, almost completely lactose free, and super filling. I’ve been having some with cottage cheese/granola for breakfast most mornings and getting a good 22g of protein in to start my day off right!

DSC_0012Where has almond butter been all my life??

Okay, so this is going to sound reeealllll mean and ig’nant like, but I had always just assumes that almond butter was a sad substitute for people allergic to peanuts. Don’t hate me hahah… I couldn’t have been more wrong! SO GOOD. I bought some recently because I wanted to make those No Bake White Chocolate Cranberry Bars and didn’t think peanut butter and white chocolate/cranberries would go too we together. Well, now I’m hooked and I’ve almost finished my first jar. Dare I say I like it as much as my normal nut butter?

DSC_0016Anyways, plans for today include getting some breakfast in my belleh, heading to a coffee shop to get some dreaded organic chemistry studying done, cooking up some new recipes for the blog, and perhaps a Great Fratsby party tonight with my girls (yes… you read that right. As in a Gatsby-styled frat party haha).

Have a wonderful day!

Question of the day: What new food find have you come across lately?

Happy to Move!

Today is just one of those days when it feels so good to be alive. I’m in a mood where I just want to move and live vicariously! It’s days like this where I really appreciate what my body lets me do. I’m so incredibly blessed to be healthy and capable of living the active lifestyle that I try to pursue. Anyways, enough sappy talk, here’s what I’ve been up to so far!

Last night I had my last real lab of the year! Those things are the devil so I’m not complaining one bit :). I always love getting a super late night dinner with Kyle at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant after though.

IMG_2126 IMG_2127 IMG_2128 After I came back, I felt exhausted but wanted to get my math homework out of the way so I would have a completely free Friday. Luckily, Kyle is really good at numbers and is always more than willing to help me out when I get stuck.

I woke up today around 7:30 after a not-so-great sleep, but felt ready to stretch my legs. I found this new app called “RunKeeper” that I think I will develop an obsession to. I’ve been whimpering about not having a Garmin (eek they’re expensive!) and wanting to track my progress as I try to get back into running. The app is awesome! It tracks your pace, splits, incline, etc and I love looking over the data on how my run went. It’s perfect because I don’t have to wear another watch and can simultaneously listen to my workout playlist. Here’s how today went:

Check out that high heart rate! Raise the roof! Woot Woot!

I know 2.5 miles isn’t a lot to some of you long distance runners, but I was happy with my negative splits and am looking forward to getting back into the running shape I was in when I played club soccer. I used to easily run less than a 7:30 mile pace- now I think I would pass out if I tried that!

Breakfast: Oatmeal with raisins, milk, and some honey, a banana, egg whites with ketchup, and coffee of course! I ended up getting some peanut butter and jelly to dip my banana in. It was SO good.

After breakfast I ended up hanging out with some friends before hitting up the gym with my bestie and the babesical (Don’t worry, I don’t really call him that… Ok, just sometimes…)

Gym with Kyle Gym with Tiana!

I started off by doing my 20 minute elliptical workout:

20 Minute Elliptical Interval Workout

And after, I completed the following strength training exercises:

  • Squat with Press: 3×10 with 45 lbs
  • Wide-Grip Lat Pulldown: 3×10 with 75lbs
  • Bicep Curls: 3×10 with 12.5 lbs
  • Dumbbell Shoulder Press: 3×10 with 12.5 lbs
  • Deadlifts: 3×10 with 85 lbs
  • Tricep Dips: 2×20 {bodyweight}
  • Calf Raises: 3×30 with 105 lbs {ouch ouch ouch!}
  • Seated Row: 3×10 with 70 lbs

I think it’s safe to say that I will be decently sore come tomorrow ;). After my great workout, I went back home and had fresh fish with lemon, a huge salad, and some ambrosia salad with some cottage cheese added for a protein kick.

Oh, and on a side note, how cool are these shorts that I snagged off Poshmark for $16? They’re new with tags and were initially $60.

tons of bling!

tons of bling!

If you haven’t heard of Poshmark, it’s an iPhone app that lets its users post and sell their old clothing. I’ve gotten SO many great deals from it and have actually made a good amount of money selling there myself.

Now it’s time to take a nap!

xoxo Christine
