Thinking Out Loud: Blog Gainz and Random Thoughts

Well howdy, friends! It’s Thursday which means another rendition of Thinking Out Loud, courtesy of the lovely Amanda from Running With Spoons. If you haven’t heard about it yet, it’s a day where us bloggers type whatever comes to mind. Easy and effortless writing? Sign me up!

Here we goooo!

 1. I’ve been making some pretty cool blogging gainz lately. Here are some of the fun things happening on Apple of My Eye at the moment!

  • I put up a new subscription bar at the top of my site and am trying to be good about sending out my mailing letter when I create a new recipe. Speaking of my mailing letter, I use Mailchimp and design each one of them personally. *Ahem self-promotion alert* you should sign up to get updates ;).

Example newsletter!

  • I updated my recipe page! Instead of just seeing boring text, now you can just click on an image that seems appealing and be taken to the recipe. The plugin I’m using is incredibly useful and updates my pages automatically for me when I post a new recipe. Love it!

  • I got hired for another freelance recipe job! I have to admit, it’s pretty cool for a college student like me to be offered jobs. Building up that resume! I am a little worried about the time commitment, though. I work for another health site as well and want to keep Apple of My Eye running too. My future seems like it’s going to be extremely food filled!

If anyone is interested in a tutorial post about how I got these new bloggy things to happen, just let me know :)!

 2. Latest food obsession? Kefir (a probiotic yogurt smoothie), cottage cheese, and granola. It’s packed with a ton of protein to help keep me full and it’s just so tasty and refreshing.

3. Active dates=the best. It’s been awfully windy around here, but Kyle and I still managed to get in a walk near the beach to stretch our legs and chat a bit. There’s nothing I love more than spending time with my best friend!

Annndd that’s about all I got for you guys today. I’m tired and it’s time to hit the hay.

Hope you’re having a wonderful Thursday!

Wonderwoman. you’re epic degree, keeping up a blog, freelance work AND a social life? Amazing.

Love the look of the recipe page, and what a great idea, seeing as your pictures are beautiful! (and droolworthy!)

Congrats on all the amazing gains, girl! Nothing more exciting that having your blog open up some awesome opportunities. My recipe page is something I really need to attack, but ugh… I just don’t want to think about it yet 😆

Congrats on the new job! Maybe that idea of full time blogger isn’t too crazy 😉 I LOVE Kefir! I bought it last week and I’m using it in my overnight oats! So yummy!

I’m starting to think blogging full-time could be a possible future job ;). Probably won’t for me, though, since I plan to go into physical therapy! I LOVE it though so the option is just waaay too cool :)

Congratulations!! Please tell us how you got your super awesome blog gainz :) I sort of would rather not end up graduating in four years and managing a superstore, which is very possible since I refuse to get a math/science degree.

Ah that’s so awesome! Looks like you really will be able to be a full-time blogger :)

I totally agree with you that active dates are the best! I love when Dan and I have the time to walk our dogs together, it’s so simple and one of the best ways to get some quality time in during the week :)

I noticed the subscriber bar at the top! I didn’t notice the recipe page because, well, I don’t have a kitchen right now and therefore don’t really have a need for recipes and looking at really good food just makes me want really good food which I can’t make because of the whole no-kitchen thing. #firstwordproblems

Anyway, you’re awesome, your blog is awesome, and you should post more often. Jus’ sayin. 😉

Who wouldn’t want to have a tutorial post on that? I really enjoy reading about the blogging success of my favorite blogs and I am truly happy for you that you get all this job opportunities. So exciting lovie!

I’m not sure how I feel about the kefir+cottage cheese combo…but my roommate likes it! I have a design question-how do you get it to show suggested posts at the bottom of your blog?

I absolutely love how your blog is shaping up to be. :)
    It’s so clean-cut and I’m jealous haha!
    Congrats on the job offer!

I love a good cold yogurt bowl.
Jealous you get to walk along the beach!
A summer trip to CA is in order. 😉

Hi Christine! I’m a recent fan and just discovered your blog. Loving what I see so far! I would also be interested in a tutorial post about how you got the recent bloggy things to happen, as you say, because I’m trying to expand my blogging skills and especially connect with companies and brands.

What a cute active date idea! That beach looks gorgeous!
Once I can start making real food again (when I’m off of prep and training — it’ll probably only be a week :/ ) I am going to cook everything from your site! None of it will look pretty like yours, but I will be in food bliss!
