I know, I know.
Avocados and chocolate? What the heck? I’ll I can say is, don’t judge it till you try it.
I first became a big fan of the combination when I tried my Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles back in August. They became one of my most popular recipes and have gotten rave reviews from readers who have tried them! They were featured on Greatist, as well as adapted by The Detoxinista, where a huge number of people have reported that they tried them and were amazed at how rich and delicious they taste :). If you need any convincing, just go check out some of the comments on my truffles or on the Detoxinista’s page!
Anyways, these Fudgy Dark Chocolate Avocado Cookies are just as good and oozing chocolate flavor and decadence. I mean, just check out that chocolate gooey-ness! The avocado completely replaces all the butter that normal cookies are made with and add a wonderful richness without adding any avocado flavor.
It’s a cookie miracle!
I can’t stress enough how tasty these are. And not in your “this is pretty good for being healthier”, but genuinely mouthwatering. If you dished these fudgy cookies up to a bunch of kids or brought them to a potluck, no one would be able to tell that avocados make up the primary fat source!
Enjoy!
I’m linking up to WIAW to share these tasty treats! Thanks, Jenn, for hosting!

I absolutely love avocados! I have been craving fudge lately for some reason. I’ll have to go to the supermarket and pick up some more avocados to whip up a batch. I take your work for it, because let’s face it, you’re a recipe guru.

These look really good!! Definitely have me drooling at the pic! This has actually been a really popular combo lately – avocado & chocolate. I once tried making the pudding, but it was a fail. Oh well.

I’ve honestly 100% accepted the avocado/chocolate combo, but STILL haven’t gotten around to trying it! I actually had half an avocado that I was saving for this very purpose, but then I forgot about it and let the baby carrots murder it.
These look BEYOND delicious! If they won’t make me get my act together, nothing will!
Diana @sosmallsostrong says

OH WOW! Avocado in cookies? No way! These sound great!
Sarah says
First, Thank You so much for sharing this recipe!!! I just ate 3! Best chocolate cookie ever! I did do a few things differently. Instead of white sugar I used coconut and using a mixer I creamed the avocado and sugars together first. Then beat in the egg and vanilla, folded in the chips, which were Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips, and lastly folded in the flour. I was able to make 13.5 cookies with my cookie scoop. Just YUM!
Christine Skari says
Thanks for letting me know they turned out well for you, Sarah! Totally made my day :).
Jen @ SavedbytheKale says
Christine, I made these Fudgy Dark Choc Avocado cookies today and they are amazing!!! It is taking all my will power not to eat the entire batch right now!!!! <3
Christine Skari says
Woohoo! So glad they turned out well for you! Isn’t it crazy how well the avocado blends into the chocolate flavor? It’s a serious cookie miracle 😉
Sarah says
How big of an avocado should you use?
Christine Skari says
A medium to large avocado will work best! Just make sure it’s ripe enough to mash smoothly.
Rich says
These are SOOOOOOO good. I only managed to wrangle 15 cookies out of the recipe (probably because I couldn’t stop eating the batter), but they were perfect bite sized chocolate lava pools. I highly recommend, and if you’re skeptical, it’s so worth it
Christine Skari says
So glad they turned out fabulously for you as well! Isn’t it crazy how well the avocado blends in?!
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment-it made my day :)!
Susan Madej says
These are wonderful. I had just mashed an avocado for guac, and found out my lime had went bad! What to do? Google a different recipe. I hit the jackpot with this one. Made these with whole wheat pastry flour and added a few fresh raspberries I had left over from making chia jam, and touch more flour. YUM.
Christine Skari says
Woohooo! So glad I could be of service for an emergency like a bad lime ;). And I’m equally ecstatic that these turned out yummy for you! Thanks for letting me know how they turned out!
Joyce says
Christine, between your Fudgy Dark Chocolate Avocado cookies and your Buckeye Brownie cookies, my coworkers are going to positively SWOON!!! (not to mention what I’ll do—almost sinful concoctions; MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!). Oh, my stars and gators, the young’uns (coworkers) are going to go absotively, posilutely wacko over these treats
Christine Skari says
You are TOO sweet haha! When I read this comment, I turned to Kyle and told him, “This is what makes me love being a food blogger!” :). I hope they go crazy over them! I know I sure did!!
Genevieve says
Hey! I have been dying to try this recipe for a while, and I just wanted to ask you what kind of avocado do you use in your recipe? I live in florida so we get the large, bright green avocados, and the small, darker ones. I just didn’t want to end up putting too much or too little avocado in the recipe.
Christine Skari says
Hi there! I would use a medium-sized one, but if the flavor of avocado seems a little too strong (you should hardly be able to taste it at all), just add in a bit more of the cocoa :). I’m from California, so I used Californian avocados if that helps at all!
Genevieve says
Thank you!!
Vikki says
o m g YUM!! I do not like avocado so I was a bit unsure but they are lovely and my two children loved them too!! I couldn’t taste the avocado just chocolatey/fudgey goodness! Try these!!!!
Christine Skari says
YAY! Glad you guys loved them :). Thanks for stopping by and leaving a review- these comments make my day!
. says
These were excellent – I did add about a TSP of salt, and changed the flour to all purpose gluten free for my first batch. Second batch was regular flour, rave reviews for both varities!!
Christine Skari says
So glad to hear they turned out well! Thanks for letting me know that gluten free flour works out as well, I’ll keep that in mind if people ask me about the substitute :).
Linda says
