*BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Ugh, that’s my alarm clock. Remind me again why I set it for 6 a.m when I don’t have class till 10? Oh yeah, that thing called my health is calling my name to lace up my running shoes and get in some mileage before the heat sets in. Also, someone please tell me why there’s a high of 80 degrees this entire week… mid-January. What the heck, California. You have like 330 days a year to be warm and you decide that you want to take over January as well? Greedy son of a state.
It’s now 7 a.m. Gotta get going! It’s the first time I’ve really ran in a month and a half, so it’s an easy 4- miler.
Cue internal debate on whether or not to read/comment on blogs or shower right away. Blogs win, of course. After all, after a busy week, I have 142 (OMG) unread blogs in my Bloglovin‘. It actually fo’ real stresses me out. Eat a breakfast of Honey Bunches of Oats with milk. Coffee, too, of course.
Time to shower and put on big-girl clothes. A sundress and sandals with a side of a whole wheat bagel, because since when did cereal ever keep anyone full for more than 22.8 minutes?
Class time! French from 10-11.
Secret to becoming swoll? Simply transform into a croissant.
Bike reeeaaal fast to CLAS (a free college tutoring class) from 10-11 a.m for my organic chemistry class. Spend an hour writing down mechanisms on how to form different compounds. Cry.
Time to learn some bio, yo. 12-1 class. After bio I run to go talk to an academic advisor about my major and studying abroad in France next Fall. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to since I have too strict of a schedule and will have to go for the summer instead.
By now it’s 2 and, just so you know, I’m getting pretty hangry.
I still need to pick up a package that I ordered for Kyle’s birthday. When I get there, I realize that it’s 3 times bigger than I thought and it would be a miracle if I could get it back myself while on my bike. SOS HELP. Call Kyle so he can carry his present back to my apartment. Realize how fabulous of a girlfriend I am.
Once I’m back at my apartment, I make a sandwich and devour it. Randomly snack on things in the fridge including my Pumpkin Spice Apple Butter with cottage cheese (don’t ew it till you’ve tried it) and mocha fudge ice cream.
I answer a few emails, read/comment on some more blogs, and study/take notes from 3-6.
Kyle and I head over to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant to grab some dinner before my 7-10 p.m lab. I get my usual (loaded fried rice with pineapple) and we split a thai tea.
Doesn’t he look a bit goober-ish here? Also, yes, his hands are really that big. Monstrous.
Lab time. It involved mussels and I find a bebeh crab, some worm things, and barnacles in my mini ecosystem. SCORE! Also, remember when I sexually assaulted a sea urchin? #throwbackthursday
It’s 10 p.m now and I’m exhausted. I bike back, study some Ochem for an hour, then pass out in bed because I have an 8 a.m class the next day.
So there ya go, an average day for me! Busy, but such is the life of a Microbiology major and it makes me appreciate sleep 23352 times more ;).
Side note: I have a guest post up for Understanding Menopause and Testosterone. I would appreciate it if you could pop on over there and check it out! (Only if you have the time, of course!)
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
Copycat 😉 Not like I JUST did this post yesterday! …even though you definitely pulled it off better than I did!
Christian has monstrous hands too! We always joke around at them.
You have such a busy day! Also, jealous that you can go run in the sunshine in the morning. If I did that, I’d be wearing 8 layers of clothing! Ha.
Still a bummer you can’t go study abroad! But I’m still jealous you’ve already been to France multiple times.
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Hahah I always make fun of Kyle and wonder what it would be like to have huge hands. Imagine all the things you could hold LOL! Yup, I definitely appreciate it not being freezing outside haha!
Kayla says
Oh man – I’m not sure that I miss O-Chem. But I do miss college!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Ochem is… not too fun hahah!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles says
I don’t know what to comment on first because THERE’S SO MUCH GOING ON. And I’m really exhausted and I had a super long day today and my brain is 110% dead. So here’s some random disjointed thoughts about this post:
1. I want a basket on my bike.
2. Here’s a secret…I had everything lined up to study abroad in France. And then for various reasons, it didn’t happen. (That’s why I had to get my passport renewed.) I’ll talk about it on the blog eventually…
3. That croissant man made me hungry.
4. I never knew you were a Microbiology major! I wish there were time for me to switch to something a less chem-y (more on the ecology side of bio, rather than biochem) but alas, time is running out so it is what it is.
5. This is getting really long and I want to watch White Collar before I pass out so toodles! <3
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Well now you’ve spiked my interest! Definitely would love to hear why you weren’t able to go. I’m a bit bummed, but I’m sure it’ll happen in the summer sometime so meh.
Yup yup! Microbiology is the plan for now. I still have plenty of time to change, but I think it’s a good balance for me. Biochem sounds… fun hahah ;). Don’t know how you do it!
Elise @ 9toFit.com says
I’m so with you, when I look at bloglovin sometimes and I see like a billion unread posts it stresses me out too lol I try to squeeze in reading them before work aka NOW
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Hahah I do the exact same thing before school! I power read and try to get through as many of them as I can so I can keep updated 😉

I would take high of 80’s waaaay more than low of 30’s! I just can NOT do this cold, at all. Just going from the house to the car is a major accomplishment in my book!
And you get to run by water? thats amazing! amazing as in: I’m jealous!
Ah, college life is not for the faint hearted! Busy, busy, busy.
Emma @ Life's A Runner says
It’s been in the low 40s here for the last week and everyone is FREAKING OUT with how HOT it is! 😉
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Ugh I can’t blame you! I think I would just give up on life if I were that cold… okay so maybe an exaggeration, but I’ll send some sunshine vibes to you haha!
Yup! I’m incredibly blessed and have the ocean literally a 2-3 minute jog away from me. Next year I’ll be leaving beachside!
Emma @ Life's A Runner says
You keep torturing me with that apple butter! I swear the moment I have more than five minutes to spare it WILL be happening over here. Maybe we can cry over organic chemistry together and then it will make us feel better. 😉
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
TRUST ME! You need to have it in your life hahah! I gave some to me 6″5 huge rowing friend, Ryan, and he’s demanding that I give him the recipe- it’s that good!!
OMG. Glad someone can feel my pain when it comes to Ochem ;). So awful!
Davida @ The Healthy Maven says
Gahhh can’t wait to stalk your life in France! I went on exchange to France and I fell in love with the country!
Health can be a serious nuisance sometimes 😉
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Ohh you must have LOVED it there! I’ve been there several times for vacation and just love the atmosphere 😀
Sarah says
Soooo the life of a science student. I couldn’t do a semester abroad either. Chem problems. Also I’m impressed by how much you study for orgo… Maybe that’s why I was so terrible at it 😉 I kind of really wish my school was as pretty as yours. So,etching about winter and grayness that makes me want to live in the tropics.
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Chem=life ruiner ;). At least for me hahah. I feel like if I didn’t spend time looking at it (SO many things to memorize) I would just completely fail haha!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
That’s awesome you’re planning to study abroad! Your schedule makes me wonder how I used to fit it all in in college and still keep my sanity!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
It might be the summer of 2015, but hopefully I’ll get there eventually!
Karey @ Nutty About Health says
That’s one pretty busy day!! It’s going to be very similar to my days when I start school again in a little over a week! Great job on handling it all though, I know it’s not easy! 😉
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Tell me about it! Wednesdays are by far the worst for me and I basically pass out when I get back home ;). I’m sure you’ll do a great job balancing it as well!
Erin @ The Almond Eater says
Our posts start off the exact same way….damn alarm clock! You read 142 blogs?! I read like 25 and THAT stresses me out lolol guess I need to up my game. I love reading day in the life posts–they amuse me. Have a great weekend!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Haha seriously! It’s my worst enemy ;). Oh, I definitely did not! I ended up having to skip a few since that would take me the entire day haha! That’s what’s happens when you don’t have time to read any for a few days. Wish I had more free time for them!
Day in the life posts are my favorite as well! I feel like you get to know the person so much better through them
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green says
Jeez, you are a busy lady! But very productive haha. I would have done the same thing re: the package. Actually, I think I have done that numerous times in the past… but Grant never minds because he spends the whole time guessing what is in the package!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Haha I’m forced to be productive! If I had it my way, I’d be lying in bed reading blogs all day ;). Kyle was SO curious! I feel like when you get older, presents tend to get smaller, so the box definitely spiked his attention 😉
Diana @sosmallsostrong says
I am smitten with your bike and that you ride it to class. I wish the weather (and traffic..lol) in Jersey would allow for more of that. SO AWESOME OF YOU!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
My school is a HUGE biking school and basically every student there has a bike. Love it! Easy way to get some exercise in :).
Michelle @ 3cheaprunners says
hehehe…I loved that you called Kyle and got him to come PU his own gift….that is totally something i would do
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Hahah I didn’t have much choice ;). Oh well, he still has no idea what it is!
Ashlee@HisnHers says
Ahh I wish I wouldve done a study abroad. Your summer is going to be amazing!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Hopefully you have time to get in lots of traveling to make up for not going! I hope so! Can’t wait to get immersed in another culture
Leigha @ Minougirl says
Girl you are CRAZY busy! Let’s just say, if I was that busy, I definitely wouldn’t be waking up at 6 to run! You go girl! And that is so cool that you’re gonna study in France! I really want to do an exchange program but I think I’m gonna have to do it in the summer too. These posts are always my favorite! We get to creep on our friends even more, lol
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
TELL ME ABOUT IT! Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in work haha!
And I completely agree with the whole loving day in the life posts… you get to learn so much more about the blogger ;). Creeping is a good way to describe it LOL!
Emily @smilemilegirl says
Oh my goodness so much science, my head hurts just reading about it!! Your workout clothes are so cute. I’m totally jealous of your view, it makes me really want to get out of Illinois, haha. That really stinks that you can’t go to France for a semester, but you will still have an awesome experience when you go over the summer. I can’t wait to hear about all your adventures, it sounds so exciting!
Natalie Staeckeler says
I wake up at 6 as well and I always wonder why my alarm has to ring so soon. You have a beautiful view on your runs, I’m jealous! I would love to live in California, but I live in the next state over, Arizona. I feel ya on the heat. Why?! Let me enjoy winter! Haha. 😀 That rice looks delicious, oh my. You’re a busy girl. I am as well. It really sucks sometimes, but it’s worth it.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Summer in France? Eeee! Lucky girl 😀 I’m still kicking myself for not taking a semester abroad when I was still in school — would have been the most amazing experience ever. And I completely know what you mean about getting stressed out when your BL reaches high numbers. Heck… even the 40’s start to freak me out.
PS – cereal kept me full for 24.7 minutes once 😉
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
Hi Christine! So you’re going to study in France?? That’s so exciting! I studied abroad in Italy in college and it was the best.experience.ever. I also went in the summer instead of a semester too.
Christine Skari says
I hope I can manage to go! It’ll be the experience of a life time and just the coolest thing ever to get immersed into another culture :). Do you speak Italian? Italy would definitely be my second choice if I were to go abroad!
Tara Newman says
Christine – I am incredibly jealous of your warm weather as I am on the east coast where we have this pesky thing. Allied the Polar Vortex!
