Hiking Adventures

Hi friends! Hope your Saturday went swimmingly, here’s what happened in mine!

Like I mentioned in my post yesterday, Kyle and I had plans to go on a long hike with another couple. We ended up going over 4 miles and were completely spent by the end! Now that I look at the elevation climb, it makes total sense!

IMG_3159IMG_3170The area where we usually hike at has the most interesting terrain. It’s almost savannah like in regards to the brush and dust, but you can hike down from the top down to the ocean if you wanted to! I was surprised at how many people were out since it was midday and the sun was blazing, but we saw plenty of other hikers and dog walkers.

Kyle always makes me laugh, he’s such a little boy at heart.

“Christine! Christine! Look at this rock I found! I like this rock!”

(in his defense, it was a very nice rock)IMG_3158

We ran out of water for the last 3/4th of a mile, so nothing sounded better than making a beeline to Starbucks for some of their Refreshers. We ended up ordering a Very Berry Hibiscus and Valencia Orange, which were the perfect drinks to quench the monster thirst that had built up!

I also mentioned yesterday that in the evening, we had plans to make a big spaghetti dinner. We ended up changing our plans since their was a very impromptu family get together at my parent’s house. Dinner ended up being the most delicious Chinese chicken salad, pizza, and a whole wheat strawberry shortcake from Whole Foods. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the cake, the salad was out-of-this-world good!

The plan for today is to hit up the gym, try out the first day from Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred (anyone else try this before?), paint an old bookcase to match my apartment’s  theme, and eat my weight in meatballs. There might also be another post coming up today with a new recipe, so stay tuned!

xo Christine

Wow, that elevation! And it is a pretty nice rock. 😛 I haven’t been to starbucks for a while, and your pic makes me want to go there soon. Their fruit drinks really are pretty nice. How is the Jillian Michaels shred? She’s one of my fave tv trainers, but I’ve never done her workouts before. Would you recommend it?

I know right?! I died- in a good way ;). I just did the first workout today! I didn’t think level one was all too hard, but I probably need to get heavier hand weights since I’m used to lifting heavier at the gym! I think it would be especially great if you haven’t done weights at the gym before. She covers some great full body moves!

I saw the Valencia Orange refresher the other day when I was in Starbucks! I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve tried the other two and loved them, so I think that needs to happen soon. I’m always so jealous of your gorgeous hikes! And I did Level 1 of the 30 day shred for like a week once upon a time…it’s HARD. Or at least, hard for someone like me who doesn’t strength train regularly (oops) and has little weakling arms (double oops). But it’s not like, Insanity hard. Nothing is Insanity hard. Except Insanity. Good luck and have a wonderful Sunday!

It’s good! It’s more tart so you don’t slurp it down as quickly as the other ones haha ;). It is pretty challenging! I think I need to up my weights a bit since I only had 3 lb dumbbells, but I like her routine a lot :). The pushups in the beginning killed me! Insanity… man. I get tired just watching the commercials for it hahah

Wow that hike looks intense but also like a ton of fun. I love how you’re still rocking your DIY headbands. And hehe that is a nice looking rock – Kyle has good taste. 😉

    Love those Starbucks refreshers!!!

MEAT BALLLLLLS! I hope you lived up to your word and really ate your weight in them 😉 You and the boy are the cutest things ever, by the way. My heart is melting right now. I wish Florida had awesome places to hike like this. Our biggest hill probably reaches an elevation of 3 ft…. Such a workout (not). I’ve always wanted to move to California and your pictures are swaying my opinion even more!

Hahah don’t worry- I did some serious damage on those balls! D’aww thanks Julie ;). Did I ever mention that I LOVE your name? Like… someone rename me PLEASE so it’s cute like yours! 3 feet? I would die 😉

JM’s 30 day shred is killer but SO GOOD. I occasionally do a video but have never actually done 30 days in a row. Keep us posted on how it goes.

I’m sure you’re sick of me saying this but you and Kyle are actually adorable! Also my bf says the most ridiculous things sometimes too. I’ll never forget on one of our first dates in NYC he pointed to a park and stated “public spaces are so important”. WHAT? duh…to his credit he’s an engineer but still! Makes me laugh though 😉

I’m going to try to be consistent about it! I probably won’t be able to do them straight either ;).

Hahaha I enjoy hearing we’re cute, Kyle does too! He always remarks on how funny the comments I get are. Silly boy ;). Hahahaha I LOVE that! Kyle is studying to be an engineer as well, so he might be able to relate! Our boys are the best <3

That’s a CRAZY elevation chart! Bet you felt great for achieving it afterwards though. :)
Jillian Michael’s Shred DVD is great. Beware the jump from Level 1 to 2 though, I ended up just jumping around towards the end trying to look like I was doing what she was!
